MSIT Boys Varsity Soccer Team completed a successful campaign in the Staten Island PSAL division earning themselves a playoff spot. Their campaign demonstrated team camaraderie and perseverance as the team lost the season opener to Tottenville 0-3. However, a few games later the team beat Tottenville which started a ten game win streak to end the season with eleven wins, two losses, and a draw. They finished second in their league behind Tottenville.
An interview with Captain Edmond Wong revealed that the two games against Tottenville were the team’s most memorable games because the team was able to shrug off the early defeat, as well as play positively against a good team like Tottenville and earn a win. Wong has played soccer his whole life and he was excited to join the team freshman year. As his four year career at MSIT Soccer comes to a close, he is proud of his team and is glad to have played for his coach Michael Padmore for four years. Wong recognized key athletes such as Michael Abi-Habib (midfielder) and Vincent Pashchenko, (striker) for their hard work throughout the season. His team being ranked number one on SILIVE high school soccer rankings above Tottenville is his most recent accomplishment. MSIT could not complete their goal of taking the division but achieving the number one ranking at the end of the season is definitely noteworthy.
In the end, MSIT Varsity Soccer lost 0-3 to Brooklyn Technical High School in the second round of the playoffs ending this season in the round of sixteen. Great job and good luck next year MSIT Boys Soccer Team!
