Undefeated, the MSIT Boys Volleyball team had their record and season on the line in the PSAL City Championship. The Seagulls had a dominant season, blazing through league play and grabbing the #1 seed heading into the playoffs. With 2-0 set wins against Seward, Environmental Studies, and Cardozo, MSIT looked to cap off the season against #2 seed Fort Hamilton. The Seagulls are no stranger to the finals, as they recently lost to Environmental Studies in 2014. Coach Mahon had a 3-4 record in the city finals, his latest championship coming in 2003.
The final took place at CCNY on May 24th. The Seagulls dominated the first set, winning 25-14. However, the second set proved to be the final test for MSIT, as Fort Hamilton had the #1 seed on its heels with a 24-21 lead. The Seagulls hadn’t dropped a set but one in their season opener, so this was uncharted territory for MSIT. Coach Mahon took a timeout to calm his team, and it worked wonders. The Seagulls roared back and scored 5 straight points, winning the set and the PSAL title. The great performance was backed by seniors Brandon Au (27 Assists), Daniil Bronshteyn (9 kills), and Nicholas Paravalos (4 kills, 3 digs).
