There is no better way to kick off senior year than this. There really isn’t.
The sun was beating down on us as we formed “17” on the new softball field. Laughter came from direction. No matter which way we looked, we saw a face we just might never forget in our lives. These are all the people we are graduating high school with.
We just started senior year, true. The memories we have made so far and the memories we have yet to make will be unforgettable. Most of us probably remember the first person we met in Tech and how we met them, the first club we joined and why we joined it, or even the first teacher we had and how they greeted us. I hope I speak on behalf of all of us when I say: I wouldn’t have traded these experiences for the world and I am extremely grateful to have been here.
Yes, it’s true–“17” is just a number. To us, though, it should mean so much more. To us, “17” is going to be a picture in our yearbook. “17” is going to be the year we separate from some friends, and continue our lives with some others. “17” is going to be the year we start our lives and learn how to live on our own.
“17” is going to be a memory–a four-year long memory. And as this memory slowly comes to a halt, “17” is going to be the day we walked onto the softball field and stood together as one…alongside a seven. This was the kickoff to our senior year. And I really must say…
There is no better way to kickoff senior year than this. There really isn’t.
