Starlink, a subsidiary of Musk’s SpaceX, has been in talks with the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) for licensing approval under the Global Mobile Personal Communication by Satellite (GMPCS) framework. Once the final nod is received, the company plans to commence pilot services, offering high-speed, low-latency internet through its network of low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites.

The Indian satellite broadband market is heating up, with Bharti-backed OneWeb and Amazon’s Project Kuiper also preparing for entry. However, Starlink’s aggressive global expansion and proven service record in over 70 countries give it a distinct advantage.
