iPhone 17 Sees 14% Sales Surge Over iPhone 16 in Early China and U.S. Markets

Apple’s latest flagship, the iPhone 17, is off to a strong start, outselling last year’s iPhone 16 by 14% in its initial sales period across China and the United States, according to a new report from a leading research firm. The early momentum highlights a renewed interest in Apple’s premium smartphones despite broader market headwinds and intensifying competition.

Strong Early Adoption in Key Markets

The research report noted that consumer response in both China and the U.S. has exceeded expectations, with early adopters showing particular enthusiasm for the new design, improved battery life, and AI-driven camera features. Apple’s strategic focus on integrating on-device intelligence and enhancing performance efficiency appears to be resonating well with users upgrading from older models.

China Market Shows Resilient Demand

Despite growing competition from local manufacturers such as Huawei, Xiaomi, and Oppo, Apple recorded a notable sales bump in China, contributing significantly to the overall 14% rise. Analysts suggest that Apple’s new pricing strategy and exclusive trade-in offers helped boost demand among Chinese consumers, particularly for the iPhone 17 Pro models.

U.S. Consumers Drawn to AI Features and Design

In the U.S., Apple’s core market, early sales have been driven by strong carrier promotions and consumer curiosity surrounding Apple’s “Apple Intelligence” features, introduced with iOS 19. The iPhone 17 series’ refreshed design, featuring thinner bezels and enhanced durability, also played a key role in attracting buyers seeking both performance and aesthetic appeal.

Analysts Expect Continued Growth Through Holidays

Industry analysts predict that the iPhone 17’s strong start could carry through the holiday quarter, traditionally Apple’s biggest sales period. However, they caution that supply constraints and macroeconomic factors could affect long-term growth. Still, with Apple’s focus on AI capabilities and ecosystem integration, the company appears well-positioned to maintain momentum into 2026.
