New Delhi: The NITI Aayog Internship Scheme, introduced in 2018, aims to provide students with an unparalleled opportunity to gain first-hand experience in policy-making and governance. Designed to engage young minds in the work of India's premier policy think-tank, the scheme emphasizes skill-building, innovation, and exposure to developmental challenges across multiple sectors.
Key Highlights of the Internship Program:
-
A Platform for Learning: Open throughout the year, the unpaid internship offers aspiring students the chance to work across various divisions of NITI Aayog. While interns are responsible for their own devices, the organization provides workspace and internet facilities.
-
Eligibility Criteria:
- Undergraduate students who have completed their second year and secured at least 85% in their Class 12 examinations are eligible.
- Graduate and research students must have completed their first year and achieved a minimum of 70% in their undergraduate degree.
- Recent graduates waiting for higher studies admission can also apply within six months of their results being declared.
-
Flexible Duration: Internships last between 6 weeks to 6 months, ensuring flexibility for students. A minimum attendance of 75% is mandatory to successfully complete the program.
-
Application Process: The scheme operates on an entirely online application system. Interested candidates can apply between the 1st and 10th of each month, ensuring ample time for planning. However, applications must be submitted no earlier than six months in advance and no later than two months before the desired start date.
-
Selection and Allocation: Each division can accommodate up to three interns, with additional slots requiring the CEO's approval. The final selection is made by the heads of divisions, ensuring alignment with the organization’s requirements.
Diverse Opportunities in Governance: The program spans 25 domains, including Agriculture, Energy, Health, and Water Resources, allowing interns to delve deep into areas that align with their academic and professional interests.
Streamlined Certification Process: Interns are required to submit a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their educational institution and present original academic mark sheets at the time of joining. Upon successful completion, NITI Aayog provides an official internship completion certificate.
This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to fostering young talent and encouraging active participation in India’s developmental journey. As the nation’s policy landscape evolves, programs like the NITI Aayog Internship Scheme are critical in shaping the leaders of tomorrow.
