Nothing Unveils CMF Phone 2 Pro: Customizable Back, Minimalist 'Essential Space' and More at an Affordable Price

London-based consumer tech brand Nothing has officially launched its latest addition under the CMF sub-brand: the CMF Phone 2 Pro. With a unique blend of utility, style, and affordability, the device aims to redefine the budget smartphone market by introducing features rarely seen at its price point—including a customisable rear panel and a new minimalist user experience called Essential Space.

A Fresh Take on Customisation

The standout feature of the CMF Phone 2 Pro is its customisable back panel, a feature that echoes Nothing’s commitment to design-centric products. Users will be able to swap out the rear covers, which come in a range of vibrant colors and finishes, including textured matte, soft-touch silicone, and even transparent options. These panels can be changed easily using a built-in tool, adding a layer of personalisation typically reserved for more premium phones.

Additionally, modular accessories such as lanyard loops, kickstands, and wallet clips can be attached magnetically, enhancing both style and functionality.

Introducing 'Essential Space'

On the software side, Nothing has debuted Essential Space, a new minimalist interface designed to reduce distractions and focus on core functionality. Built on top of Nothing OS, Essential Space offers a stripped-down home screen with key apps and widgets—such as calls, messages, calendar, and camera—without the clutter of notifications or background processes. Users can toggle in and out of Essential Space depending on their needs, making it ideal for productivity or digital detox sessions.

Specifications and Features

Despite being part of the CMF budget range, the CMF Phone 2 Pro packs impressive hardware:

  • Display: 6.7-inch FHD+ AMOLED, 120Hz refresh rate

  • Processor: MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Pro

  • RAM & Storage: Up to 12GB RAM, 256GB UFS 3.1 storage

  • Battery: 5,000mAh with 33W fast charging

  • Camera: Dual rear setup with a 50MP primary sensor and 8MP ultrawide; 16MP front camera

  • OS: Nothing OS 3.0 based on Android 14

  • Extras: In-display fingerprint sensor, stereo speakers, IP52 splash resistance

The device retains Nothing’s signature visual aesthetic, featuring minimalist UI design, dot matrix font, and subtle animations that lend it a distinct identity.

Pricing and Availability

The CMF Phone 2 Pro is priced competitively, starting at ₹14,999 (approx. $180 USD) for the base 6GB + 128GB variant. The 12GB + 256GB model will retail at ₹17,999. Custom back panels and accessories will be sold separately, ranging from ₹599 to ₹1,499.

Pre-orders begin May 5 via Flipkart and Nothing’s official website, with open sales starting May 10. Early buyers will receive complimentary accessories and a ₹1,000 discount on the back panel of their choice.

Strategic Positioning

With this launch, Nothing continues its strategy of targeting style-conscious consumers who crave more than generic glass slabs. By bringing modularity and aesthetic flexibility to an affordable device, the CMF Phone 2 Pro challenges both domestic and global competitors in the sub-₹20,000 segment.

Nothing founder Carl Pei commented during the virtual launch event, “With the CMF Phone 2 Pro, we’re redefining what budget smartphones can be—not just functional, but expressive. Essential Space is our answer to digital overload. Together, they represent a new way forward.”
