Powerbeats Pro 2 Review: The Ultimate Fitness Earbuds Get Even Better

In a market saturated with true wireless earbuds, the second generation of Beats' Powerbeats Pro aims to reaffirm its identity: fitness-first audio gear that doesn’t compromise on quality or endurance. The Powerbeats Pro 2, released in early 2025, refines an already popular design with modern features that athletes and active users will appreciate.

Design & Fit: Form Meets Function

The Powerbeats Pro 2 doesn't stray far from the original’s sporty silhouette — and for good reason. Its over-ear hooks remain one of the most secure ways to wear earbuds during high-intensity workouts. Beats has made subtle refinements: the hooks are now more flexible and the overall footprint of the buds is slightly more compact. The case is slimmer too, though still bulkier than your average earbud charging cradle.

Offered in new colorways like Midnight Navy, Storm Grey, and Energetic Red, the Pro 2 also sports a matte finish that resists fingerprints and sweat, reinforcing its gym-friendly credentials.

Sound Quality: Punchy, Yet Balanced

Beats has long been known for its bass-heavy sound signature, but the Powerbeats Pro 2 reveals a maturing audio profile. While the low end remains punchy — ideal for gym tracks and running playlists — there’s improved balance across mids and highs. Vocals are clearer, and there’s more separation in complex tracks. Thanks to a redesigned acoustic architecture, Beats has achieved a soundstage that’s surprisingly rich for a fitness-focused pair.

New Features: ANC and Transparency Arrive

The biggest upgrade from the original Powerbeats Pro is the addition of Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) and Transparency Mode. These features, already standard in many premium earbuds, were notably absent in the first-gen model. ANC on the Pro 2 isn't industry-leading like what you’d find on AirPods Pro or Sony’s WF-1000XM5, but it does an admirable job of muting gym noise and ambient distractions. Transparency mode, meanwhile, lets in enough outside sound to keep you aware during outdoor runs.

Thanks to Apple’s H2 chip, the Powerbeats Pro 2 inherits many features from the AirPods line, including Adaptive Audio, Personalized Spatial Audio, and Find My support. Pairing is seamless on iOS devices, and Bluetooth 5.3 ensures reliable connectivity on Android as well.

Battery Life: Built to Last

Endurance remains a strong suit. The buds offer up to 9 hours of playback with ANC off (7 hours with ANC on), and the case provides an additional 18 hours — enough to get through a week’s worth of workouts. Fast Fuel charging returns, giving you an hour of use from just five minutes of charging.

Controls and Call Quality

Physical controls are still present, which many athletes prefer over touch-sensitive panels. The tactile buttons are easy to locate mid-run or mid-set. Voice pickup has been enhanced as well, with new beamforming microphones reducing background noise significantly during calls and voice assistant interactions.

Verdict: Still the Fitness King?

With the Powerbeats Pro 2, Beats hasn’t reinvented the wheel, but it has polished it to a fine shine. For users who prioritize stability, sweat resistance, and battery life, these earbuds are hard to beat. The inclusion of ANC and Apple’s H2 chip brings the line closer to the tech-forward standard of premium earbuds, while still retaining the gym-ready DNA that made the original a hit.

If you’re an audiophile, there are better-sounding options. But for fitness enthusiasts seeking a dependable, energetic companion that keeps up with every sprint and rep, the Powerbeats Pro 2 earns its stripes.
