Reliance to Build 1 GW AI Data Centre in Andhra Pradesh, Marking India’s Biggest AI Infrastructure Push

Reliance Industries Ltd. (RIL) has unveiled plans to set up a 1-gigawatt artificial intelligence data centre in Andhra Pradesh, marking one of the largest AI infrastructure projects ever announced in India. The ambitious facility is designed to accelerate the country’s AI readiness at a time when demand for high-performance computing and cloud capacity is soaring across industries.

Part of Major Investment Commitment in the State

The announcement comes as part of Reliance’s broader investment commitments made during the Andhra Pradesh Global Investors Summit, where the company highlighted the state’s strategic location and business-friendly policies. Reliance stated that Andhra Pradesh's connectivity advantages and access to renewable energy resources were major factors driving the decision.

Aimed at Supporting India’s AI and Cloud Ambitions

The upcoming centre will focus on supporting intensive AI workloads, next-gen cloud applications, and scalable data processing systems. A gigawatt-scale data centre is expected to provide the enormous computational power required for training large AI models, running enterprise-level cloud operations, and supporting emerging digital services across the country.

Boost to Local Economy and Employment

Officials noted that the project is likely to generate direct and indirect employment opportunities, especially in advanced tech operations, engineering, infrastructure management, and green energy supply. Local industries and tech hubs in the state are also expected to benefit from the increased digital infrastructure.

Reliance’s Growing Push in AI and Digital Infrastructure

The announcement underscores Reliance’s rapidly growing interest in artificial intelligence and cloud ecosystems through its digital arm, Jio Platforms. The company has already been investing in AI partnerships, fiber-optic infrastructure, 5G expansion, and data-driven business models. The new centre positions Reliance as a major player in India’s race to build sovereign, large-scale AI capability.

Powered by Renewable Energy and Future-ready Design

Industry sources suggest that the gigawatt-level facility may be powered significantly by renewable energy sources, aligning with RIL’s broader sustainability commitments. The centre is expected to incorporate energy-efficient cooling, modular architecture, and designs suited for large AI clusters.

Strategic Win for Andhra Pradesh

For Andhra Pradesh, the project represents a major boost to the state’s technology ecosystem and investment pipeline. State officials welcomed the announcement, saying it will strengthen Andhra Pradesh’s vision of becoming a leading digital hub in South India.
