Samsung, Lenovo, and Apple Lead as India’s Tablet Market Shrinks 32%

India’s tablet market has faced a sharp downturn in the first half of 2025, witnessing a 32% year-on-year decline in shipments. Industry analysts attribute this slump to falling consumer demand, longer replacement cycles, and the growing preference for large-screen smartphones that are gradually replacing entry-level tablets.

Samsung Holds the Top Spot
Despite the slowdown, Samsung managed to maintain its leadership, driven by its affordable Galaxy Tab A series and premium Galaxy Tab S lineup. The company’s strong distribution network and aggressive offers in the education sector helped it secure the largest market share.

Lenovo Stays Strong with Enterprise Demand
Lenovo secured the second position, benefiting from bulk orders in the education and enterprise segments. Its budget-friendly models, bundled with accessories, remained popular among institutions even as individual consumer demand slowed.

Apple Sees Steady Growth at the Premium End
Apple maintained third place, showing resilience despite the market contraction. The iPad lineup, including the iPad Air and Pro models, continued to attract premium buyers and students, driven by ecosystem integration and strong demand for hybrid work and learning.

Other Players Struggle to Keep Pace
Other brands, including Xiaomi and Realme, saw steep declines as competition intensified. The shift toward hybrid laptops and detachable devices further challenged smaller brands in capturing significant market share.

Future Outlook
Analysts suggest the market could stabilize in the latter half of the year with festive season sales, new product launches, and government-led digital learning initiatives. However, the overall annual outlook remains cautious as tablets face pressure from both laptops and large-screen smartphones.
