Vodafone Idea Unveils ‘Vi Protect’ at IMC 2025: AI-Powered Shield Against Spam Calls, Fraud SMS, and Cyber Threats

At the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2025, Vodafone Idea (Vi) announced the launch of Vi Protect, a new AI-driven security suite designed to combat spam calls, fraudulent messages, and digital scams. The initiative marks a significant step by the telecom operator to enhance customer safety amid rising incidents of cyber fraud and phishing attacks across India.

AI at the Core of Vi Protect’s Defence System

Vi Protect leverages artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning algorithms to detect, block, and report suspicious communication patterns in real time. The system analyses massive data sets to identify potential fraud attempts, alerting users before they engage with risky content. According to the company, this proactive approach aims to reduce online scams and identity theft affecting millions of mobile subscribers.

Enhanced Protection Across Calls, SMS, and Online Activity

The platform provides multi-layered protection, covering voice calls, SMS, and data-based messaging platforms. Vi Protect will automatically identify and flag fraudulent caller IDs, phishing links, and malicious URLs sent through messages. Users will also receive in-app notifications warning them of possible threats, ensuring transparency and awareness at every stage of digital communication.

Collaborations and Government Alignment

Vodafone Idea’s Vi Protect initiative aligns with the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and TRAI’s ongoing efforts to curb spam and fraudulent communication in India. The company stated that it is collaborating with government authorities, cybersecurity experts, and fintech platforms to build a nationwide safety network. This partnership aims to foster a more secure telecom ecosystem as India transitions toward 5G and digital-first lifestyles.

User Benefits and Future Expansion Plans

At launch, Vi Protect will be available for both prepaid and postpaid Vi users, with a mix of free and premium security features. The service is expected to roll out in phases across major cities, followed by nationwide availability. Vodafone Idea also hinted at future integrations with Vi Secure Cloud and Vi Smart App, expanding its AI capabilities to protect user data and online transactions.

Commitment to Digital Trust and Safety

Speaking at IMC 2025, Vi officials emphasized that Vi Protect reflects the brand’s commitment to digital trust and customer safety. As the telecom industry faces evolving cyber threats, this launch positions Vodafone Idea as a leader in AI-based fraud prevention and digital hygiene for consumers.
