Women's Safety at Workplace is a Key Indicator of a Healthy Society: Prof. S.K. Singh, Vice-Chancellor

Kota, January 4 – Rajasthan Technical University (RTU), Kota, organized a special awareness workshop on the prevention and redressal of sexual harassment at the workplace. The event, hosted by the university's Women’s Harassment Committee, was attended by a large number of students, faculty, and staff members. The primary aim of the workshop was to raise awareness about preventing sexual harassment and educating stakeholders about related legal provisions.

According to Assistant Public Relations Officer Vikram Rathore, the workshop featured in-depth discussions on the challenges women face at the workplace and strategies to address them. Participants were also given guidance on changing societal attitudes toward women, fostering awareness of relevant laws, and ensuring adherence to prescribed procedures.

Key Speakers Share Insights

The workshop was addressed by key speakers, including Professor Arun Kumar Sharma and Advocate Kalpana Sharma, who provided valuable insights into workplace safety laws for women. The event highlighted various aspects of workplace harassment and measures to combat it.

Vice-Chancellor’s Message

In a message to the participants, RTU Vice-Chancellor Prof. S.K. Singh emphasized the importance of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition, and Redressal) Act, 2013. He stated that educational institutions play a vital role in addressing and resolving these issues. “Understanding and tackling sexual harassment is essential for creating a safe environment for women and girls. A safe workplace is a fundamental indicator of a healthy society,” he added. Prof. Singh stressed the collective responsibility of every individual at the workplace to uphold gender equality and protect women’s rights, ensuring respect, safety, and empowerment for all.

Remarks by Faculty

Dean of Faculty Affairs, Prof. Dinesh Birla, lauded the achievements of women in various fields and highlighted the importance of creating a respectful and dignified environment for women. He remarked, “Despite robust legal provisions, incidents of sexual harassment remain a threat to women’s safety and dignity. It is crucial to create awareness and encourage women to voice their concerns and report violations.”

Message from the Women’s Harassment Committee Chairperson

Prof. Manisha Vyas, Chairperson of the Women’s Harassment Committee, emphasized that it is everyone’s responsibility to ensure a safe workplace for women. “The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act reaffirms the fundamental rights of equality for women. Understanding the causes of harassment is an essential step toward prevention,” she said. Prof. Vyas also discussed the various forms of harassment and their impact on women, stressing the need for self-education and proactive measures.

The workshop concluded with actionable recommendations for fostering a safe and respectful workplace culture.
