How to work on Dream Project | Expert Plan

Turning your dream project into reality starts with a clear vision and a solid plan. Define your goals, break them into manageable steps, and set deadlines. Surround yourself with like-minded people who can support and challenge you. Stay consistent, adapt to obstacles, and keep learning. Most importantly, take action—small steps every day will bring you closer to success.

Stay committed, and your dream project will become your reality!

1. Embrace your ideas

As computer science students, we choose this major because we want to apply what we learn to real-world problems. As we go through our journey and pick up new skills, we often come up with different ways to use that knowledge. Sometimes, our ideas might seem unrealistic or out there, but that doesn’t mean we should ignore them. Try reaching out to your professors and sharing your thoughts—you never know where they might lead!

2. Don't Hesitate to ask for help

As students, reaching out to professors or other resources for help can sometimes feel daunting for various reasons. I felt the same way at first—I worried that my ideas or questions might not be good enough or might even seem silly. But the more I shared my thoughts and asked questions, the more I realized that professors are here to support us and help us achieve our goals. So, don't hesitate at all to ask for help!

3. Start from the basics

Even if bringing your ideas to life means learning new concepts and techniques you haven’t encountered before, don’t let that hold you back. When I started my work in the summer, I didn’t even know what the OpenCV library was. During my first few weeks, I focused solely on learning and mastering it. I started with a single image and experimented with as many operations as possible. Likewise, if you need to learn new concepts to turn your ideas into reality, start with the basics and keep experimenting as you go.

4. Learn from failures

Not everything will work out perfectly on the first try, and that’s completely okay. When working on my research, there were times when my approaches didn’t yield the results I expected. Instead of getting discouraged, I used those failures as learning experiences to refine my methods and improve my understanding. Every mistake teaches you something valuable, so embrace the setbacks and keep pushing forward.

5. Stay consistent

Progress in any project, research, or learning journey doesn’t happen overnight—it takes patience and persistence. During my summer research, there were times when I felt stuck or frustrated, but I kept going. However, if you start feeling burned out, don’t hesitate to take a break and prioritize your well-being. Your physical and mental health are essential, not just for your success, but for sustaining your passion and growth in the long run.
