Nothing Begins Rolling Out NOS 4.0 Based on Android 16 for Indian Users

Nothing has begun rolling out its latest major software release, NOS 4.0, built on Android 16, to users in India. The update, which has been in testing for several weeks, is now appearing as an over-the-air (OTA) download for select users of Nothing’s recent smartphone lineup. The company is following a staggered rollout strategy, with a wider release expected shortly.

Refreshed User Interface and Visual Overhaul

With NOS 4.0, Nothing introduces a cleaner, more consistent visual language across the system interface. The update brings smoother transitions, refined glyph animations, enhanced lock-screen customization options, and updated iconography. Early users have noted improvements in widget responsiveness and home-screen flexibility.

Performance Boosts and System Optimization

The Android 16–based update includes significant backend tuning, resulting in faster app launches and reduced system lag. Nothing claims improvements in RAM management and background task handling, enabling a more stable overall experience, especially on mid-range hardware like the Phone (2a).

Enhanced Privacy and Security Controls

One of the standout additions is expanded app permission controls, powered by Android 16’s security enhancements. Users now get more granular control over data access, background activity, and device sensors. Fraud detection frameworks and system protection layers have also been updated.

Better Battery Life and Adaptive Features

Battery performance has been a key focus for Nothing in NOS 4.0. The update brings smarter adaptive charging, refined thermal management, and improved app standby behavior. Users in India have reported noticeable gains in screen-on-time after installing the update.

Nothing’s Push to Strengthen Its Software Identity

Nothing has been positioning software as a core part of its brand identity. With NOS 4.0, the company aims to move closer to its goal of delivering a minimalist yet feature-rich Android experience. The new update also integrates deeper support for the wider Nothing ecosystem, including accessories and upcoming devices.

Rollout and Availability

The update is currently available to select users, with a gradual expansion planned over the next few days. Users can check for the update by navigating to Settings > System > Software Update. Nothing has advised users to maintain adequate storage and ensure a strong Wi-Fi connection before proceeding with the installation.
