In a move to strengthen its social outreach and offer affordable telecom services to elderly users, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has announced a new prepaid plan exclusively designed for senior citizens across India. The new plan, aptly named the “BSNL Samman Plan,” aims to provide cost-effective voice and data benefits to users aged 60 and above.
Affordable Tariff Designed for Elderly Users
The BSNL Samman Plan is priced at ₹197 and comes with a validity of 90 days. It offers unlimited voice calls, 2GB of daily data, and 100 SMS per day, ensuring that senior citizens can stay connected with family and friends without worrying about high mobile expenses. Once the daily data limit is reached, users can still browse at a reduced speed of 40 Kbps.
Extra Benefits and Health Helpline Access
Beyond the standard telecom benefits, BSNL’s Samman Plan also introduces value-added services tailored to senior citizens. Subscribers will receive priority customer support, discounted health consultation access, and special offers on BSNL Bharat Fibre connections. The plan also includes emergency helpline integration, allowing users to quickly connect with local authorities or medical services in case of emergencies.
Availability and Activation Details
The BSNL Samman Plan is currently being rolled out in a phased manner, beginning with select circles including Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Maharashtra. The company plans to expand it nationwide in the coming weeks. Interested senior citizens can activate the plan through the nearest BSNL customer service center, retail outlet, or via the MyBSNL app by submitting age verification documents.
Part of BSNL’s Digital Inclusion Mission
Officials from BSNL stated that the initiative is part of the company’s broader effort to promote digital inclusion among older adults, enabling them to remain connected in an increasingly digital society. The telecom operator, which is gearing up for a nationwide 4G rollout, emphasized that similar socially driven plans will be launched for other demographic groups in the future.
