Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh Inaugurates New IIHT Campus in West Bengal

West Bengal: Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh inaugurated the new permanent campus of the Indian Institute of Handloom Technology (IIHT) in West Bengal. The state-of-the-art facility has been constructed on 5.38 acres of land at a cost of ₹75.95 crore, equipped with cutting-edge infrastructure, including smart classrooms, a digital library, and well-equipped testing laboratories.

The new campus is set to serve as a center of excellence in handloom and textile technology while meeting the educational needs of students from West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Sikkim.

Designed to foster innovation and skill development, the campus offers a conducive learning environment for aspiring students. The advanced infrastructure aims to provide high-quality education in handloom and textile technology, making it a model institute in the field.

Awards and Initiatives

During the event, the Union Minister presented medals and merit certificates to the top 10 rank holders across all IIHTs in India. Furthermore, a unified website for all six central IIHTs was launched, streamlining access to resources and information for students and stakeholders.

The inauguration of this campus underscores the government's commitment to strengthening the handloom and textile sectors through quality education and technological advancement. This initiative is expected to empower students in the region with skills and knowledge to excel in the global textile industry.
