How to become a Kaggle Notebooks Grand Master

Want to go from Contributor to Grand Master in Kaggle notebooks? It's all about two things: making 15 good notebooks and getting people to notice your work. I've also included a snapshot of my Kaggle profile so you can see my journey firsthand.

Here's how you can do it:

1. Make Good Notebooks

  • Solve Real Problems: Don’t just make random notebooks. Pick real problems, explain your steps, and make it easy for others to follow.
  • Start Simple: Begin with basic EDA (Exploratory Data Analysis). Look at the data, find patterns, and check for outliers. Keep things simple.
  • Use Simple Models: Start with models like Logistic Regression or XGBoost. Explain how you handle the data and train the model. Don’t make it too complicated.

2. Get Noticed

  • Share in Discussions: Post your notebook in Kaggle discussions. Tell people what makes it special and how it can help them.
  • Help Others: Answer questions and comment on others' work. The more you engage, the more people will notice your profile. Some may even upvote your work.
  • Trending Section: If your notebook is good, it might end up in the Trending section. This gives you a lot of exposure.

3. Join Competitions

  • Publish Solutions: If you do well in a competition, publish your solution as a notebook. Others might like your approach and upvote it.
  • More Visibility: The more people upvote and comment on your work, the more visible it becomes to others.

Start Simple, Keep Going

You don’t have to go far to reach Grandmaster. Here’s a simple plan:

  1. Get Expert First:

    • Create 5 notebooks.
    • Aim for 5 upvotes on each notebook.
    • This gets you to Expert level.
  2. Then Aim for Master:

    • Create 5 more notebooks (10 total).
    • Aim for 20 upvotes on each notebook.
    • This gets you to Master level.
  3. Grandmaster Is Close:

    • Create 5 more notebooks (15 total).
    • You now need 50 upvotes across each notebook for your final goal.
    • Focus on quality, share your work, and engage with the community.

It’s not as far as it seems—just keep making solid notebooks and engaging with others. You’ll get there!
