Sony is gearing up to unveil its next-generation premium true wireless earbuds, the WF-1000XM6, at its scheduled February 12 launch event. Ahead of the official announcement, key specifications and features of the earbuds have reportedly surfaced online, offering an early look at what could be one of 2026’s most advanced ANC earbuds.
The WF-1000XM6 will succeed the widely praised WF-1000XM5, which set high standards in the premium wireless audio segment.
Upgraded Noise Cancellation With New Processor
According to the leak, the WF-1000XM6 could feature an upgraded noise-cancelling processor, possibly an improved version of Sony’s Integrated Processor V2. The new chip is expected to enhance real-time adaptive noise cancellation by better analyzing ambient sound and adjusting suppression levels more accurately.
Sony may also refine its dual feedback microphone system to further reduce background noise in crowded environments such as airports, public transport, and busy streets.
Improved Sound Quality and Hi-Res Support
Sony is reportedly focusing heavily on audio enhancements. The WF-1000XM6 could offer improved dynamic drivers for deeper bass response and clearer mids and highs. Support for LDAC and Hi-Res Audio Wireless is expected to continue, enabling higher bitrate streaming on compatible Android devices.
The earbuds may also feature DSEE Extreme upscaling technology, which uses AI to restore compressed audio files in real time.
Enhanced Call Quality With AI Processing
Call clarity is another area tipped for improvement. The leak suggests advanced AI-based voice pickup technology, along with additional beamforming microphones. This setup may significantly reduce wind noise and isolate the user’s voice more effectively during calls and video meetings.
Sony is likely to further optimize its bone-conduction sensors for more precise voice detection.
Battery Life and Charging Improvements
Battery performance is expected to see a modest boost. Reports indicate that the WF-1000XM6 could offer up to 8–10 hours of playback on a single charge with ANC enabled, with the charging case extending total usage beyond 24 hours.
Fast charging support may also improve, potentially delivering up to an hour of playback with just a few minutes of charging.
Refined Design and Comfort
While the overall compact design language is expected to remain similar to the XM5, Sony may introduce subtle ergonomic refinements for better in-ear stability. The earbuds are also expected to retain IPX4 water resistance, making them suitable for workouts and light rain.
Color options could include classic Black and Platinum Silver, with possible new finishes.
Smart Features and Connectivity
The WF-1000XM6 is likely to feature Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity, multipoint pairing, and seamless switching between devices. Sony’s companion app is expected to offer customizable EQ controls, adaptive sound modes, and 360 Reality Audio support.
Touch controls and wear detection features are also anticipated to return with improved responsiveness.
Launch and Expected Pricing
Sony has scheduled a product launch event for February 12, where the WF-1000XM6 is widely expected to debut. While official pricing remains under wraps, the earbuds could launch in the premium segment, potentially in line with or slightly above the WF-1000XM5’s original pricing.
