Cooperative AI Foundation Launches Research Grants for 2025 with Early-Career Opportunities
The Cooperative AI Foundation (CAIF) has unveiled its 2025 research grant program, highlighting new opportunities and refined priorities for advancing cooperative AI. This year’s program introduces detailed funding guidelines, a focus on specific research areas, and a dedicated early-career track.
Key Priorities
The foundation has emphasized two high-priority research areas for 2025:
- Understanding Cooperation-Relevant Capabilities and Propensities
- Evaluating Cooperation-Relevant Capabilities and Propensities
Proposals outside these areas will be considered only if closely aligned with CAIF’s mission.
Early-Career Researchers
In a significant move, CAIF has launched an early-career track designed for researchers within 2–3 years of completing their PhDs or at comparable stages. These grants, capped at GBP 100,000, aim to support projects primarily executed by individuals over a 12-month period. The evaluation process for this track will factor in the potential career impact alongside the project’s merits.
Application Process
The grant program uses a two-stage application process, beginning with a pre-proposal submission due by January 18, 2025. Selected applicants will receive feedback and invitations to submit detailed proposals, with final decisions expected by May 2025.
Projects can span up to two years, with no fixed upper funding limit. However, applicants are encouraged to demonstrate cost-effectiveness and scalability. Early-career projects must adhere to stricter budget and duration limits.
